“Elegance is the only beauty that never fades.”
Many wine experts agree saying that Pinot Noir grape produces very elegant wines.
This grape variety is cultivated practically all over the world, but It is native to Burgundy and there is where arguably find its best version. However, there are very interesting pinot noir wines also in Oregon, Patagonia, Valle d'Aosta, and New Zealand.
Personally, my favorite pinot noir outside of Burgundy's borders is Cinquenta y Cinco from Bodega Chacra in Patagonia. It is a fine and elegant pinot noir with a strong personality; it is an unfiltered natural wine with intense characteristics.
Generally speaking, pinot noir is a light-bodied wine, and its benchmark characteristic is high acidity. Its color is (or at least should be) lighter compared to other reds and its finish is long and persistent.
In the old world, pinot noir usually displays more earthy notes and when it has intense tannins it can also be suitable for a period of maturation in French oak; after that, it can develop soft vanilla notes. In the new world, Pinot Noir is likely to be more fruity and concentrated.
